Mykhailo Bokotey was born on 18 December 1976 in Lviv. In 1999, he graduated from the Department of Art Glass at the Lviv Academy of Arts, and in 2004, from the Faculty of Business and Law at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. In 2018 he defended his thesis on "Lviv Blown Glass in the Context of the International Studio Movement: Artistic Features and Centres of Glassmaking" and received a PhD Candidate in Art History. Since 2013, he has been working as the Director of the Museum of Glass in Lviv. In 2016, he received a Certificate of Honour from the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, and in 2019, a silver medal from the NAA of Ukraine. Since 2017, he has been the executive curator of the Zhejiang Greenwave Glass Museum in Ningbo, China. Since 2018, he has been holding the position of Acting Head of the Department of Art Glass at the Lviv National Academy of Arts.
Mykhailo Bokotey is the author of more than 100 paintings made in the signature author's style and several hundred art glass products, the author of projects for dozens of catalogues, developments and brands, a participant in group exhibitions in Ukraine, China, Lithuania, France, and Hungary. Among his most famous works are the series "Svityaz Motifs" (2016-2019), "Landscape Abstractions" (2018), "Chinese Inspirations" (2016-2019), "Seasons" (2016-2019), etc. Moreover, M. Bokotey is an engaged scientist, author of 26 scientific and methodological publications on the study of the current state of art glass, a participant in 16 international and all-Ukrainian scientific conferences and symposia, an initiative pedagogue and methodologist. M. Bokotey's work in the diplomatic service from 2000-2006, in particular in work groups for the organization of visits of state leaders, days of Ukrainian culture in the Republic of Poland, and numerous cultural and artistic projects, was twice awarded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. Mykhailo Bokotey is the Head of the Western Regional Scientific and Art Center of the NAA of Ukraine, and the author of the concept and editor-in-chief of the Center's magazine and the art magazine 7UA.
