On 18 August, the Khlibnya Gallery presented the Confrontation exhibition by artist Oleksandr Dubovyk. The exhibition includes both works of the past years and new paintings created by the artist during the war, when he deliberately stayed in Kyiv from the first days of the full-scale invasion. The Confrontation is a reflection of the artist's creative and personal path: from confrontation with totalitarian Sovietism to confrontation with the market and double standards, and today - confrontation with imperial racism.

He remains one of the leading artists of Ukraine, his work is a bright page in the history of Ukrainian fine art of the second half of the 20th and early 21st centuries. He successfully combines his painting talent with original intellectual and theoretical research. The artist's works are successfully exhibited in the top museums and galleries not only in Ukraine, but also in many European countries and the Americas. The artist's creativity is striking in its versatility: he creates mosaics, stained-glass windows, carpets, paintings, interior design and book graphics. He was awarded the Order of St George the Victorious (2011). Honorary Academician of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine (2009).

The entire oeuvre of Oleksandr Dubovyk is based on the philosophy of the White Bouquet - a quantum idea, integrity and the supremacy of unity. The philosophy and the Bouquet symbol itself were created by the artist and presented to the world, as well as to the Bouquet Kyiv Stage festival, defining its name and determining its main idea. Each work by Oleksandr Dubovyk features the Bouquet symbol, and each event of the festival contains the idea of the Bouquet - unity and beauty, love and giving, striving for light and opposition to darkness.

As the artist said: "We should think in such a way that the ground under our feet would harden! To be proud that we are now the centre of the world, the centre of the universe! To resist in order to go through this extremely difficult historical path that has fallen to the lot of Ukrainians with dignity. We must withstand the challenges and the things that are unacceptable in terms of values. We shall go steadily and firmly to the victorious end!"

The opening of the exhibition was attended by the President of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, Academician Victor Sydorenko and Vice President of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, Academician Yuriy Vakulenko.

The exhibition will run until 18 September 2023.
